DECEMBER 15, 2017

Gulfport, FL -- LocalShops1, the area’s leading advocate for local businesses, is excited to announce its two new resident artists for 2018: BJ Andryusky and Cristi Hasic. The two St. Petersburg artists will keep studio hours at the LocalShops1 Shop, and consumers are invited to drop by to see the artists at work while they browse through the work of two dozen other local artists.

“I am thrilled to welcome BJ and Cristi to the LocalShops1 Shop. They’re full of energy and creativity, and I’m looking forward to working with them in the coming year, and beyond,” says Ester Venouziou, LocalShops1 founder. “They’re the perfect fit for our resident artist program.”

LocalShops1, founded in 2008, opened its brick-and-mortar space in downtown Gulfport in 2016. The space features the work of two dozen of its members, and merchandise rotates to showcase as many local artists and small businesses as possible. The shop also features pop-up businesses during the city’s market, art walks and special events.

The LocalShops1 resident artists help staff the shop and will help coordinate special events, including art and business workshops. Local businesses, artists, and industry experts interested in leading a workshop may email to be placed on a waiting list.

Meet the artists
BJ Andryusk
y recently took early retirement from corporate management and training to pursue her artistic dreams. She opened Dragonfly Antics from her home studio in St. Petersburg’s historic Kenwood neighborhood, and turns vases, boxes, jars and other home itmes into affordable metallic-looking art. BJ’s love of all things mystical and spiritual can be seen in her home decor and collectible design pieces, often in a steampunk, industrial or medieval style.

Cristi Hasic moved to St. Petersburg from Indiana with her husband in 2013, and instantly fell in love with the Gulf; so much so that it inspired her to start her business, Treasures of the Gulf. Cristi goes paddleboarding to Shell Key, where she finds shells, driftwood and other pieces for her art. “These shells and treasures are one-of-a-kind and are as natural as can be,” Cristi says. Her work includes home furnishings and decor, ornaments and jewelry.

The LocalShops1 Shop is at 2908 Beach Blvd S, in downtown Gulfport. It is open 9 am to 3 pm on Tuesdays; 1-7 pm Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; and also by appointment. Hours will be expanded starting in January. The space is available for private shopping parties and small-group workshops.
