Sandy Oestreich created ERA Inc. 15 years ago when she was reminded that the Equal Rights Amendment still needed three states, including Florida, to be passed. Passage of ERA into the U.S. Constitution, Oestreich says, will not only enhance the societal landscape of America, but also improve its economy with a potential 9 percent boost to the Gross Domestic Product. "Operating funds come from seven home garden sales per year and donations. We do this extremely hard work, not because we seek money, status or power. We do it because we care about justice for all, male and female. ... We must be extremely frugal with funds. When we do year-around advocate work, we sleep on the floor of hostels and eat out of our cars. I just pretend we are camping. I am now 80 years old, in great physical health, with a passion for justice for women and girls."
